  26. software and really using it to earn a living doing serious work.

  29. so would you then recommend a 20MB drive as a typical system requirement?

  31. I look at other software boxes, and it is not uncommon to see "xMB required,
  32. xxMB recommended." Sounds good to me, and that's where I'm coming from.

  34. I know I'm exaggerating at 32MB (okay, I apologize), but 8MB, while POSSIBLE,
  35. is hardly realistic beyond simple work. With memory prices where they are, will
  36. it really make a difference? Is there a competing product that will come even
  37. close to LW performance in an 8MB Windows system that could possibly steal
  38. sales from NewTek by the severe budget-conscious?

  40. Who is going to be more upset, the customer who buys 16MB ram and has room to
  41. breathe, or the guy who finds he can only use 2-3 image maps before he runs out
  42. of memory, and now has to buy something he did not plan for in his budget? If
  43. he's a corporate producer or works in an educational institution, this may mean
  44. a couple months delay while his new budget request goes through the channels.
  45. I've had a lot of customers later wistfully say they wished they had bought a
  46. 500MB hard drive instead of the 200MB drive they had purchased with the system.
  47. I've never had one come back and later say "the drive you sold me two years ago
  48. is bigger than I needed." Is it even _possible_ to buy too much ram, too big a
  49. hard disk, or a CPU that's just too fast?

  53. I learned assembly programming on a computer with 64K. Don't think I'd
  54. recommend it to anyone else, though... ;-)
